As a general rule pest control in the industry is referring to non-wood destroying structural pest such as:
Roaches, ants, spiders, crickets, silverfish, fleas, ticks, stored product pest, and other pest in these categories. (also rodents, and stinging insects, see specific pages for more details)
A customized program based on your specific needs, the type of structure, and of course the type of pest will be used to resolve any pest problem you encounter.
Roach control:
A full service program is offered to cover the many different types and habits of roaches in the Tidewater areas.
Some roaches will require interior treatment only, which may include attic spaces, and attached garages. Other roaches may require the treatment of the exterior areas also.
Many of our programs no longer require the removal of items from the cabinets, and you will not need to leave the house. The safety of many of the new programs are far superior to what they were in the past, along with better control.
Use the insect identification page and call our office and we will assist you in the correct approach to eliminate this problem pest.
Ant control:
Ants are presently the most troublesome pest in this country. Widespread infestations of many different ant types are infesting structures from coast to coast.
Ant control is a very different operation than most other types of pest control. It may encompass the application of baits, residual applications interior and or exterior, void treatments, and possible exterior sites away from the structure.
A lot of training is needed for the proper control measures to effectively control ants.
The real ultimate goal for ant control is the elimination of the colony. This will only be accomplished with the proper use and placement of the right products. To obtain colony elimination several applications over a period of several months will usually be needed for complete control. During this time a decrease in activity can be expected. Call and our representative will be able to schedule a service for you.
Spiders, crickets, sow bugs, and other outside to inside invaders:
These problems can easily be handled with outside applications, and if needed limited interior treatment. Many of our customers have an annual outside and underside treatment done to prevent problems and reduce the numbers of this type of pest.
The best protection for this type of problem is a program to maintain an exterior band of protection around the structure. We have programs we can design to provide long term protection with little to no disruption to your family and with a high degree of safety.

Silverfish:
These very interesting and ancient insects are found in most every structure. It is when the numbers are high and or the areas they decide to infest cross our threshold of tolerance.
To control silverfish will require an inspection of the structure.
Determine the areas and extent of infestation. A complete treatment of interior, attic, and any other attached structures. Exterior treatments may be needed. Removal of items from the closets and other areas where items are stored may be required. A program of treatment over time will generally be required for long term control.

Fleas and ticks:
They are back in force. For several years the populations of these insects were down. Now it appears they have developed resistance to some of the popular products used on the animals and have returned in full force.
Control of these pest must be done as a concerted effort on the part of the homeowner and the exterminator. All the areas must be treated for control. The pets should be treated and maintained, the interiors and any exterior areas regularly visited by the pets or the occupants must also be treated.
Many products are available and based on what had been used, the surfaces, and where the application will be made will determine what type of product will be used. Most applications will also include the use of growth regulators for long term control.

Stored product pest:
Many pest fall into this category. Meal moths, saw tooth grain beetles, meal bugs, etc. But they all have one thing in common, they like to live in and eat what we like to eat.
Most of these pest come into our homes from the very products we might find them in. They might come in as adults or come in the sneaky way, as eggs in our food. It is more common than uncommon to have flour, and other meal or nut products infested with eggs when you purchase them. We will generally eat these products before the eggs hatch. They are harmless, but it still is not an appetizing thought.
To help prevent an infestation follow these rules:
- Keep the product refrigerated or frozen.
- Store in a heavy plastic, glass, or tin, container. This will not prevent the hatching but will contain them in that item and not allow further spread of the infestation.
- Eat the product before they hatch-ha-ha. Yum, yum.
- Buy quantities that can be used in a short time.
Controlling these pest requires the cleaning out of all infested products, and following the above steps. Then having the infested areas treated. Many times follow-up treatments may be needed.
